A Message from Our Founder

Nqobile Nompumelelo Mnisi

The journey to becoming a psychologist in South Africa is long, competitive, and often isolating. Many aspiring psychologists face limited guidance, gatekept information, and a lack of mentorship, making it even harder to navigate this field successfully.

Phapano was born out of what I wish I had during my journey, a space where psychology students can access information, mentorship, and career support without barriers. I know firsthand how difficult it is to pursue this career without guidance, and I want to ensure that those who come after me have an easier, more informed path.

I resonate deeply with Mahatma Gandhi’s words: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” To me, true fulfilment doesn’t lie in personal achievements alone but in empowering others to achieve their dreams.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

Help us continue empowering future psychologists.

Phapano supports psychology students through free mentorship, workshops, and access to opportunities that many would not otherwise receive. Your donation helps us continue this work and grow our reach. In the future, we aim to provide direct financial support to students who cannot afford to complete their studies.

Every contribution brings us closer to that goal and helps change the face of mental health care in South Africa.

Testimonials

See what our beneficiaries say about our workshops.

Firstly, the opportunity to attend the workshop for free really stood out to me. I do not take for granted that you are professionals who deserve to be compensated, but many people cannot afford paid guidance due to already compulsory application fees and ongoing financial struggles. So, thank you.

It’s the first time I’ve been accepted, and this happened after I attended the workshops.

I found it to be very helpful that the facilitators were very empathetic with each of us. Additionally, I appreciated how they allowed us to ask questions at the end of the session.

The workshops were incredibly helpful throughout my application process. The tips, strategies, and examples shared were extremely valuable. I applied many of them in my own role play during the selection week and I received positive feedback on my performance, which showed me how effective the workshop was.

I found everything helpful; it felt like it was my first time receiving advice about applications because the entire application process was explained so clearly. It was really done perfectly.

This experience was incredibly valuable, not only in helping us prepare for the selection process but also in providing much needed emotional support, especially given how competitive the field is. The workshops offered both psychological and emotional preparation. I would highly recommend the workshops to every psychology student. I’m truly glad I committed to attending every workshop hosted by Phaphano. Thank you so much!
